Now I ask you, what in the world, would make someone type in his blog while on holiday in Cozumel,
There are a few good reasons. First, is that if you are into great parties, that Mardi Gras, Girls Gone Wild atmosphere - don’t come the last week of March. For the most part this little island of true paradise is inhabited by locals, middle aged parents and their teenage children. Which is all good and fine, who am I to complain, I am in paradise. The funny part about all of this is that on a Saturday night what do middle aged, wondering when that AARP application is coming, want to know from a 29 year old that deals with lots of young folks: the Internet. How do they keep their children off of MySpace and Facebook so they don’t run off and end up the subject of a Dateline investigation?
At the request of many parents here in at Hotel Cozumel, I held a quick 30 minute seminar. I actuallyeducated nearly 20 parents on what these sites do, how EASY it is for their children - both boys and girls to reach out -to people, that are, well quite frankly, my age. The past few days I have been diving, snorkeling, and cliff diving and for the most part - lying by the beach and meditating. My good friends in New York do me a favor, try an hour of yoga and meditation a week, it will help you.
Ironically I last Monday I went to a meeting at the Anti-Defamation League and learned a few things myself. There is a growing trend in this country around cyber-bullying. I’m 29 years old, which means I’m old enough to remember to Reagan and know that my first cell phone was in the 21st century, after I graduated college. What is the point I am trying to make here? I’m not entirely sure, except that beer, cervasas are $2 US a piece at the bar, I am surrounded by the PTA here in paradise and I’m totally cool with that. I think about what I’ve seen, done, experienced since I was their age, and I fear for them, but also excited that who know what the world will be like when they reach my age – I just hope the beer prices stay the same. Be safe, be well, HAPPY PASSOVER.
